Description

Alchemy is a disturbing off-shoot from Arcanism that has never really developed in to its own proper branch of science. Instead it is practiced by alchemists, mostly by those who were rejected to become arcanists or who simply failed their studies and tests. Alchemy makes extensive use of irradiated items, especially the irradiated liquid that can be acquired when melting down these items. Using this liquid, gives alchemy several usages.

The basic form of alchemy is quite simple. Mix irradiated liquid with any number of other components... and then see what happens. This unorthodox method immediately explains why most respectable scientists refuse to consider alchemy as a proper science. Irradiated liquid is simply too much of an unpredictable factor too experiment with. Many alchemists find their end because of these unpredictable events. Other alchemists who have no actual knowledge of chemistry often find themselves on the wrong end of an explosion or poisonous fumes.

Irradiated Liquid

This dull green fluid is several times more powerful then any amount of Aether present in the air and some call it the very essence of chaos. Fortunately, despite being the product of Aether, Irradiated Liquid lacks the ability to alter the fabric of reality and it seems to affect mass and matter only, albeit on a molecular scale. Arcanism requires philosophy and a carefully controlled mind to manipulate Aether. Some Arcanists theorize that the Aether in Irradiated Liquid has a reverse or negative effect, and that it changes the minds of people instead. This might cause those with a logical and ordered mind to despise alchemy by nature, while drawing chaotic and confused men too it.

Chimera

Chimera (Chimerae) is a term given to nearly any creature which has somehow acquired one or more properties of an other, often entirely unrelated creature. A human with the eyes of a cat, a dog with the tail of a scorpion or any other imaginable combination are classified as Chimera. Some are subtle, some are extreme, and many combinations are possible, though not all of them are equally useful.

Alchemy is generally frowned upon and creating Chimera is one of the main reasons why. Most people refuse to believe it is possible and it is considered a highly illegal practice by The Inquisition, depicting them as unnatural monsters. This is not a completely untrue viewpoint either, as some insane Alchemists take their experiments so far that they occasionally create mutant monstrosities of which the original shape is no longer recognizable.

Creation

Chimera are usually created by alchemists using a combination of crude surgery, medicine or drugs and irradiated liquid. Two subjects are chosen, a donor and a target subject. The required attributes are 'removed' from the donor, often killing it in the process. Both the parts and the target subject are placed in to vats of irradiated liquid, thinned down or strengthened depending on what and how many parts need to be transferred too the subject.
